Amy’s Club

This week’s Art English Corner revolved around Paper Crafts with the intention of revising simple vocabulary and practise .

following English directions.

The first project involved folding cutting and folding paper into different shapes and naming them while crafting. The paper was

folded and cut in such a way that it transformed into a circle of paper people. The body parts of these “people” were named

and then clothes were coloured on to them. In this way vocabulary for clothing was also revised.

Orlando’s Club

Today we kicked off our English corner with a great start. Mr Orlando and the grade 1s embarked on their semester of fun.

It was an energetic fueled lesson, whilst Mr Orlando firstly demonstrated the rules, and progressed outside to use the full length

of the track to begin the day's activities. We began jogging around the track, at every basketball net, we then began breaking

into a 5 second push up mode. In five seconds, Mr Orlando and grade 1 had to push out as many push ups they could within

that time. All of grade 1 had so much fun, and couldn't stop laughing at themselves when they were trying to push out as many

push ups as possible.

David's Club

In the 1st English Corner session, the students were introduced to the teacher and also introduced themselves. After that, David

explained that he will be the Football English Corner teacher, and that he needs the students to be focused and behave

properly.

Then David Long explained the concept of warming up and the different stages of it. Run, warm up and stretch. They ran for a

few minutes, warmed their different muscle groups and then they learned how to stretch just before any physical activity

Laura's Club

This week we began with a simple warm up - running and stretching. Then I taught the students a simple dance called

"Macarena" which was very good fun.

We danced it in small groups and then individually. At the end of the class we did a relaxing yoga warm down. I think the

students really enjoyed it and we can easily make a dance together. Next time we will begin the new dance!

Mark’s Club

Wednesday saw the first English corner for 2016. All except two of the students were in the club last semester and so we were

able to resume where we left of with a big match of 10+ students.

While the majority of people are now quite adapt at hitting the ball if passed to them from an adjacent square, few are able to

successfully return a shot bounced over their opponents. This means that most games end right after the ball is severed by the

'king'. Building skills in this area will be a focal point of the coming meetings.

Daniel’s Club

For English corner this week I decided to introduce the students to the sport of boxing ( no contact of course ). I chose boxing

because it's  exciting and a very rewarding exercise for the students both physically & mentally.

This week we began by practicing the basics and I had the students perform some  'shadow boxing' which involves them

punching the air in a manner  similar to their morning Kung fu exercise. We finished with some gentle pad work in which I had

the students carefully hitting a focus pad I held for them.  Next week we will see how much they have learned.

Chris's Club

In this English corner, several boys from class 202 and 203 joined us teachers at the basketball courts. We practiced dribbling

the ball (to mild success) and bouncing the ball to each other, keeping control of the ball.

After ten to fifteen minutes of practice, the students took turns shooting hoops. With 3 lines and 3 basketballs, the students had

several turns, attempting to get a point or two. At least 4 of the students made at least one point.

Throughout Basketball English Corner, they learned the words, dribble, bounce, basketball, hoop and reviewed instructions,

such as Line up, be quiet, and listen.
