Amy's Club

This week’s project was to create a “fortune teller”. Following directions in English, the students folded and coloured this paper craft.

Colouring the outside of the crafted object involved naming colours and the inside required learners to write numbers as well as draw and name objects or construct simple sentences. Those already familiar with the folding were able to spend more time adapting and translating their fortune tellers to English.

Using this crafted paper object was fun as they attempted to read each other's fortunes, which encouraged all learners to practise their English and numeracy skills.

Orlando's Club

This week we have experienced the start of a warm spring. Mr Orlando’s entertaining English corner today; started with a fierce lap of the track, followed by a fun warm up game, chucking the ball over your head to one of your peers. In this game Grade 1 learned how to chuck a “throw in” in a football match. Mr. Orlando demonstrated the way in which throw in are done properly, and not to mistake it for other sports ball throws, such as American football and Rugby.

This exercise allowed the students to express themselves in English, communicating with each other, calling each other's English names.

Mark's Club

This week in English corner we continued to play handball.

The grade 6 students tend to be more skillful than the younger students (as they learned how to play handball last semester and have had more opportunity to practice). This meant that when everyone was playing together in one big game, it tended to be unfairly balanced towards the more experienced players. We have rectified this by running two games simultaneously and allowing students to choose which they want to partake in; a large, 10 person game for those more confident in their abilities, and a smaller game for those who are new to the game or lack the confidence to play with the experienced players.

Chris's Club

In our second week of English Corner Basketball, the students continued to practice their dribbling and shooting.

We used one of the lower basketball hoops this time, which allowed more students to make points. Throughout the week, they ran around the track, practiced bouncing the ball to each other (and control of the ball) and of course, taking turns at the hoop. They learned some terms, like shoot the ball, bounce, and points.

Laura's Club

This week we began working on our big dance. The students need to learn patience, discipline and performance quality.

First we learnt the words "point", "straight", and "bend", and practiced using our feet, legs and arms. Then we got into the spirit of the dance by imagining that we were the wind. We practiced light, graceful movements whilst travelling around the room.We began working on the first few movements of dance. It's hard work, as there is a lot to remember - position, posture, grace, movement, and most of all, a smiling face! However, we all had a great time beginning our dance. We can't wait to learn some more!

David's Club

On this week's Football English Corner, the students reviewed and performed the different Warm Up stages again: Jogging, Warm Muscles and Stretch.

They will keep doing this everyday since it is a basic part of ANY physical activity. After warming up the students were taught how to control and pass the football. They practised this and will keep doing it everyday because controlling and passing the ball is the 1st thing to learn in football.

Daniel's Club

For English corner this week We decided to stick to the theme of boxing.

We began with the usual warmup of shadow boxing. This week I placed an emphasis on ensuring the kids knew their lefts from their rights expanding their vocabulary to 'left punch' 'right punch'.

Aside from that the main goal was making sure they had fun and got a good work out.Next week I'll  begin to showcase them some fun ideas and skills from the sport of kickboxing.
